"If I close my eyes, I can still see my mother waving goodbye to us from the parking lot of our apartment building as we watched her from the rear window of my father’s truck.  Little did we know that it would be close to a year before we would see her again."

Nearly 80% of all abducted children in the U.S. are kidnapped by a family member...
You can help prevent it!

When a child is abducted by a parent or family member, the trauma can leave scars that never heal.  Believe it or not: 78 percent of all child abductions occur when a parent or family member kidnaps their own children, and yet this crime is not even a felony in every state. Today, you can be a part of the solution. Take action to make sure that every state passes the Uniform Child Custody Jurisdiction Enforcement Act (UCCJEA) – a law that prevents parental abductors from obtaining custody orders outside of the child’s ‘home state’ and gives law enforcement authorities new powers to help prevent family abductions.

NEW: Pennsylvania Adopts UCCJEA! Last week, the Governor of Pennsylvania, Edward G. Rendell, signed UCCJEA into state law, making Pennsylvania the 38th state to adopt this important legislation to prevent family abductions. Polly Klaas Foundation applauds Governor Rendell's commitment to keeping children safe nationwide and will continue our work to pass UCCJEA in all 50 states.

Click on your state in the map above to tell your Representatives to protect families by passing laws to prevent family abduction.  Even if your state has adopted the UCCJEA law, you can still help pass the Family Abduction Prevention Act of 2004, a national law that furthers statewide efforts to prevent family abductions through funding grants.

While 38 states have already passed the UCCJEA, all 50 states must adopt the law to make sure there are no ‘safe havens’ left for abducting family members. Act now by sending a free message to your governor – it’s the best way to let our legislators know just how important this issue really is.
